On 18 November 2025, 45 students gathered at Lepa Žoga in Ljubljana to watch Macedonia play Wales.

The event was simple by design. There was no long programme, formal stage, or complicated schedule. The focus was the match, the atmosphere, and the opportunity for Macedonian students in Slovenia to spend the evening together.

What began as a small sports gathering attracted more people than expected.

A short preparation for a clear idea

The event was organised between 15 and 18 November.

Hristijan Josifoski coordinated the activity, while Monika Jakimova supported its promotion. The short preparation period meant that the format needed to remain focused and easy to communicate.

The objective was not only to watch one football match.

MSOS wanted to create another opportunity for Macedonians in Slovenia to meet, strengthen the sporting spirit within the community, and see whether similar activities should become more regular.

The event was organised without direct expenditure by MSOS.

Forty five students in one room

The response showed that the idea had found the right audience.

Forty five students joined the gathering, more than the organising team had initially expected. The venue brought together people who already knew one another and others who arrived through their connection with the national team and the wider Macedonian student community.

A football match naturally gives people something shared to react to.

Every attack, missed chance, discussion, and change in momentum becomes part of the room. People do not need a formal introduction before they begin speaking. The match creates its own rhythm and gives the gathering a reason to remain active from beginning to end.

That made the evening useful beyond the result on the screen.

Photo placeholder: the match created a natural setting for conversation, shared reactions, and new connections.

Sport as a reason to meet

The event had four connected goals.

It created a social occasion for Macedonians living and studying in Slovenia. It encouraged a shared sporting atmosphere. It tested whether students would respond to this type of activity. It also created a starting point for future social and sports events.

The feedback after the gathering was positive.

The attendance and atmosphere showed that students are interested in events that are easy to join, connected with something they already follow, and organised in a setting where conversation can happen naturally.

This format does not require a large production to work.

It requires the right match, a suitable venue, clear communication, and enough space for people to experience the event together.

A format worth continuing

The report's main recommendation was direct: organise sports activities more often and explore different formats.

That could include future football matches, handball gatherings, tournaments, outdoor activities, or other shared sports experiences.

The importance of this evening lies in that continuation.

It showed that a sports event can serve two purposes at the same time. It can bring people together around competition, while also helping a student community feel more connected.

Forty five students came to watch Macedonia and Wales.

They also left MSOS with a clear reason to organise the next gathering.
